The Avengers were believed dead when they sacrifice themselves to destroy Onslaught but were sent into an alternate dimension by Franklin Richards. They eventually returned and reformed the team after attacks on individual members orchestrated by Morgan Le Fey.

Annual 1999: After Avengers sacrificed themselves destroying Onslaught, Black Widow failed in her attempts to recruit new members to form a new team. The Mansion crew, including Fabian Stankowicz, was laid off. Fabian built the robotic Protectorate to replace the Avengers but the robots went rogue, fighting the returned Avengers. Jarvis discovers Fabian's work and persuades him to stop his creations.

Annual 2000: Hellcat returns. Vs Sons of Serpents
#26: Taskmaster masqueraded as Captain America, invites Ant-Man, Genis-Vell, Warbird and Silverclaw to infiltrate the Triune Understanding to expose their secrets. However, it is a plot by Triune Understanding's leader Jonathan Tremont to discredit the Avengers.
#27: With mounting public displeasure, the Avengers formed a new roster.

KANG WAR
#41-42: Kang and his son (Scarlet Centurion) arrive at the UN demanding surrender. Iron Man, Wasp, Goliath, Vision, Warbird and Triathlon face them. 
#43-44: Captain America, Thor, Quicksilver, Black Knight and Firebird fight the Presence in Russia. Wasp, Scarlet Witch, Triathlon, Jack of Hearts, Yellowjacket, Hercules and Stingray fight Attuma and his army in Canada. Warbird, She-Hulk, Vision, Black Widow and Silverclaw fight Deviants in China.
Annual 2001: Triune Understanding helps Hank Pym reconcile with his Yellowjacket self. Justice and Firestar report to Photon that the Triune is building a spaceship.  
Ultron Imperative: Captain America, Iron Man, Wasp, Hawkeye, Vision, Yellowjacket vs Alkema and Ultron
#45: Pentagon prepares Sentinels. Master of the World sets up a ring of protective barrier around North America.
#46: Thor, She-Hulk, Hercules and Firebird fight Kang's army in France alongside European heroes Le Peregrine and Micromax. Vision joins the Triune Understanding. Stingray infiltrates the Master's base. Warbird, Yellowjacket, Silverclaw and Quicksilver follow soon after. Photon absorbs energy from Kang's base but is discovered.
#47: Scarlet Centurion is infatuated with Warbird and helps her in the Master's base to reunite with her teammates 
#48: Captain America, Scarlet Witch, Photon and Jack of Hearts attack Kang's Damocles base. Justice and Firestar are revealed as Avengers infiltrators in the Triune Understanding. Tremont leads Justice, Firestar, Vision and Triathlon to space to meet a coming evil. Warbird defeats the Master. The Pentagon releases the Sentinels to attack Kang's base but Kang takes control. 
#49: Thor and Firebird returns from France to join Wasp and Wonder Man to fight the Sentinels. Washington DC is destroyed and the US and Avengers surrender to Kang.
#50: The Triune ship picks up Captain America's team and together with Quasar and Living Lightning they fight the Triple Evil in their pyramid and Tremont who summoned Lord Templar and Pagan, who are revealed as his brothers. Triathlon absorbs the shards and gains new powers.
#51: Scarlet Witch helps Wonder Man escape from prison.
#52: Thor, Yellowjacket, Warbird, Quicksilver and Wonder Man rescue Wasp to rejoin the other Avengers (Iron Man, Black Knight, Stingray). The Deviants, Attuma's followers and the Presence fight Kang's armies on multiple fronts. Triathlon pilots the pyramid to engage Kang.
#53: Iron Man, Thor and Firebird join the space team to attack Damocles while Captain America spars with Kang. Warbird destroys Damocles Base. 
#54: Captain America defeats Kang. However, he escapes from prison. He kills the Scarlet Centurion whom he believes is a traitor.
#55: Warbird is cleared of charges for using lethal force against the Master. The Avengers celebrate their victory. Iron Man, Captain America and the Wasp mourn the passing of Duane Freeman during Kang's destruction of Washington DC.

#71: Hank Pym and Wasp take a break in Las Vegas, vs Whirlwind
#72-75: She-Hulk loses control of her powers after contact with the Red Zone virus and searches for Bruce Banner for help. Hawkeye returns to track down and help her.
#76: Losing control of his powers, Jack sacrifices himself to save Scott Lang's daughter.

#500-503, Avengers Finale (Sept 2004 - Dec 2004)
Scarlet Witch loses control of her mind and uses her powers to wreck destruction on the Avengers. Jack of Hearts is resurrected and used as a bomb to destroy the Mansion, killing Ant-Man. Vision crashes a quinjet into the Mansion, unleashing a horde of Ultrons. She-Hulk loses control, injuring other Avengers and destroying the Vision. Iron Man unexpectedly finds himself drunk and out of control in the UN, leading to the revoking of the Avenger's sovereign nation status. Hawkeye sacrifices himself to fight off a sudden Kree attack. Doctor Strange arrives to lead the fight against the Scarlet Witch. Magneto arrives to retrieve his daughter.

The Avengers re-assembles with a new team in New Avengers.
